ART OF PILGRIMAGE
The Seeker's Guide to Making Travel Sacred
Phil Cousineau

First published in 1998 and updated with a new preface by the author, THE ART OF PILGRIMAGE is a sacred travel guide in book form that is full of inspiration for the spiritual traveler.

Award-winning writer and filmmaker, Phil Cousineau, weaves stories, myths, parables and quotes from famous travellers with practical suggestions and accounts of modern-day pilgrims to show that there is something sacred waiting to be discovered in virtually every journey. Connecting these voices is a series of meditations that suggest different ways to practice what pilgrims and poets have done for centuries, to see with the “eyes of the heart.” With over 60 photos, this book is for the traveller who longs for something more than diversion and escape.

THE ART OF PILGRIMAGE shows that every journey can be sacred, soulful and transformative if it is undertaken with a desire for spiritual risk and renewal. Whether travelling to Mecca or Memphis, Stonehenge or Cooperstown, one's journey becomes meaningful when the traveller's heart and imagination are open to experiencing the sacred.

Reviews of The Art of the Pilgrimage

“If Joseph Campbell, the Dalai Lama, and Bill Moyers were to have collaborated on a book about journeys. . . I suspect it would look very much like The Art of Pilgrimage.”
-- Austin American Statesman

“Pilgrim, read this book. Whatever your longing, path, or destination, Phil Cousineau gives you the most valuable gear you could pack in your satchel – how to travel outward to the edges of the world while simultaneously journey to the depths of your soul.”
-- Anthony Lawlor, Foundation for Consciousness in Architecture

“Sorely needed in this dispirited and disenchanted world.”
-- Bill Moyers

CALL OF THE CAMINO £9.99
CALL OF THE CAMINO
Myths, Legends and Pilgrim Stories on the Way to Santiago de Compostela
Robert Mullen

Call of the Camino commences as an account of a walk along the Camino Francés from the French town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, at the foot of the Pyrenees, to the shrine of Saint James at Santiago de Compostela and then on to Finisterre, the westernmost point of Spain. Something of the history of the Camino is recounted, as well as various of the myths, legends and miracle stories which have over time become attached to the Camino and which have, since the Middle Ages, given special meaning to this itinerary.

The creation of Camino lore, however, is by no means at an end. The next strand to be woven into this work is an examination of the personal myths - the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves – and the processes through which present-day pilgrims on the Camino may come to “rewrite” those stories. All manner of pilgrims, from all corners of the world and for a great diversity of reasons, continue to be drawn to the Camino. The “miracle” associated with today's Camino, for the author of this book, is how many of today's post-modern pilgrims, whatever their backgrounds or expectations, will come to consider the pilgrimage afterwards as having been one of the defining experiences of their lives.

2010 is the Jacobeo, the holy year of Saint James (a year when the saint's day falls on a Sunday.) The number of pilgrims expected to walk the Camino during the course of the year will be much higher than the 100,000 or more who have been walking it in recent “normal” years.

In 1986 only 2,491 walked the Camino whilst in 2007 (the last year we have seen the records for) 114,026 pilgrims walked the Camino.

Sequel to Men and Gods in Mongolia
Henning Haslund

The first book in Henning Haslund's Mongolia series, this book was originally published in 1934. This rare travel book has been out-of-print for 50 years but is now back in print. Haslund was a Danish explorer who also accompanied the Sven Hedin expedition in Central Asia. Haslund takes us into the barely known world of Mongolia, a country isolated from the world for centuries. Haslund's camel caravan takes him across the Gobi Desert where he meets with renegade generals and warlords, god-kings and shamans. Haslund is captured, held for ransom, thrown into prison, battles black magic and portrays in vivid detail the birth of a new nation. Meet the reincarnated gods: the 'Mad Baron' Ungern-Sternberg and Dambin Jansang, the dreaded Tushi Gun Lama of the Black Gobi, trek across the Gobi Desert, and go back in time to Shamanic Mongolia. Mongolia is a country which has only recently opened up to the world.

MAP OF THE ANCIENT LANDSCAPE AROUND GLASTONBURY
Energy Centres, Ancient Remains, Ley Alignments, Coasts And Islands
Palden Jenkins

This eagerly awaited map of ancient Glastonbury and its surrounds is unique in that its design is based on energy centres, ancient remains, ley alignments, and coasts and islands. The map shows ley alignments between sacred sites big and small. It highlights Somerset's hills and the wetlands of the ancient 'Summerlands'. Also featured are the giant effigies of the Glastonbury Zodiac.

Glastonbury's spiritual heritage spans 5000 years or more, embracing the pre-Megalithic, Megalithic, Bronze Age and Celtic/Druidic cultures, Roman and Saxon times, the high Middle Ages, secular urbanism and, today, a New Age subculture. All these features of the Glastonbury landscape and its environs are written about on the reverse side of the map. 80 Places You Don't Want to Visit
Martin Cohen

In this first Disinformation Travel Guide, Martin Cohen visits exotic locations (80 of them!) but with a different aim than the usual travel book: to seek out the suffering and injustices, not to skirt them. We will see the dark red waters of "Murdering Creek" in Australia, silent testament to the ongoing genocide of the world's oldest people... we will visit the olive groves of Palestine where the helicopter gunships of the Israeli Army patter by like so many gigantic marauding insects, and we will queue up to see not museums and art galleries, but the more sinister monuments of politics, like the academy of terror funded by the CIA at Fort Benning in Georgia, or the poisoned shores of the Aral Sea revealing an abandoned biological warfare center...

We will visit not the great "sights" but the great "sores," the forever cursed cites of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where so many died, as Churchill might have said, for so little. We'll enter the no-man's lands of the demilitarized zones of past conflicts--between North and South Korea, between Syria and Israel, even between Catholic and Protestants in Northern Ireland.
